The Heart of a Record
The excellent culture site PopMatters.com said this:
“What is the meaning of life? David Bronson’s collaboration with photographer Ben Goldstein on “Song of Life” just might have the answer.”
I’ve noticed that each album of mine has one song that sort of singles itself out over time. Other people seem to notice it, too.
I’m not sure how or why this is, but it’s happened on each of my records so far.
It’s something I’ve started sort of casually referring to as the heart of the album.
To be clear, I’m not saying this is the best song of the bunch, or my favorite song at all – nothing like that.
It’s more like there’s one song that just glows like a bigger heart than the rest (or an exposed nerve maybe?)
When my good friend Ben Goldstein called me out of the blue and said, “Dave, I’m making a video for Song of Life,” I was extremely psyched, but not surprised after I thought about it.
Ben, apart from being a brilliant professional photographer, is an extremely in-touch guy. (Which I’m sure has something to do with why he’s such a great image maker).
I knew it would be amazing. However, just how amazing I couldn’t know until we saw the finished thing.
My bandmates cried watching it for the first time.
(Ok, I might’ve gotten a little misty too). And so have plenty of viewers since. I know because they tell me.
The video premiered at PopMatters.com (with a wonderful article written by the music writer/historian Christian John Wikane).
I really hope you’ll enjoy the video. And if you do, don’t hesitate to spread the LOVE.
It’s what it’s all about, after all.
David
Oh, and P.S. Ben made a stunning online still portrait gallery of the participants (and btw: these are all real-life couples and families). So check that out too.
